4 out of 5 stars Microsoft Optical Keyboard/Mouse   July 24, 2010

bought keyboard and mouse they both work well apart from sometimes the mouse doesn't react to movement but that happens so rarely as to not cause that much of a problem.

4 out of 5 stars Good Value   June 23, 2010

Bought this to replace wired keyboard and mouse and generally found it meets all requirements. Set-up was straightforward, the mouse fits hand nicely and keyboard is spacious and comfortable. The extra function keys are useful (My Documents, Volume and Calculator especially so) and the operating range more than adequate. The only niggle was repeated messages early on saying battery life was low - even after changing them twice. In the end I disabled the warning and since then all seems fine. Overall, good value for the money.

This was bought for my husbands birthday and he was extremely pleased with all the extra functions on the Key Board and how comfortable the keys were to use.

3 out of 5 stars Was good in its time...   April 9, 2010

Having had this mouse and keyboard for a few years now I've always been fairly impressed with its durability and usability.

I've had my fair share of problems with it over the years, from it being unresponsive to keys stopping working when playing games. Incredibly annoying in WoW when you have to hold down 'W' to move forward!

Most recently it has been giving me more trouble than usual, hence my being on Amazon to look for a new one.

I recently upgraded my desktop PC from XP Home to Windows 7 Professional (64-bit).

There is an amazing difference in performance since I did this, and the ONLY thing that has caused me any trouble is this desktop set...

The keyboard and mouse install automatically, as with any USB device, but the full features/precision/control etc come from installing the software. When I tried to do so I got all sorts of errors, and after a botched installation it wouldn't even remove it for me to try again. After deleting the software in every known location it STILL said it couldn't be uninstalled, prompting me to follow Microsoft advice on these kinds of problems. One of Microsoft's "solutions" caused a Blue Screen Of Death, and none of them made a difference.

I decided I really didn't need this kind of hassle on a clean install and promptly did another one, this time NOT installing the Intellitype/Intellipoint software. Some of the media keys still work, and the basic functionality of the desktop set is fine, but there is one thing that I just cannot handle, and that is the mouse speed.

It is diabolically slow and unresponsive.

If I had been able to successfully install the software it wouldn't have been an issue, because you can easily change the mouse speed in the settings to make it more responsive. As it stands I'm having problems even using my desktop PC, and have resorted to using my laptop mouse with it instead. My tiny little logitech laptop mouse does a much better job of navigating the screen. Much quicker and more precise.

My advice is to get a newer model than this. I much prefer Logitech these days and probably wouldn't buy Microsoft again. I may even end up going for a keyboard and mouse separately, making sure that the mouse software is easy to install and customize.

I hope this review helps some people decide. The last thing any of us want is to encounter problems with new hardware. I heart plug and play. Plug, fiddle and fail is immensely less satisfying...

Wish me luck on my hunt for something better!
