The Bees Knees March 4, 2010 Mr. J. Walters (Derby, UK) This wireless usb is the bees knees, no problems whatsoever and just does the business.
Excellent value for money! March 3, 2010 Mr. David S. M. Weir (Cheshire) I came to technology late in life, so I am not intuitive about it, but I do carry out my research, read the reviews (taking some with a pinch of salt of course)and then make a considered judgement.
This product did worry me, because it seemed to be in a 'love it' or 'hate it' category, but my ISP, AOL, recommended it, so, I ordered on the Thursday and it arrived two days later on the Saturday morning. Usual superb service from Amazon.
My system is a 5 year old Dell desktop, running Windows XP SP3 with a Netgear DG834G Router - supplied by AOL - which was cabled to my PC and broadband line.
Installation of the Netgear WG111v3 via the supplied CD was a doddle and took about 5 minutes. I then updated my Router to a 'wireless' configuration via an AOL driver download, which I had previously saved on a USB Memory stick, unplugged my redundant Lan/Ethernet cable and rebooted.
On reboot, I checked that my firewall was picking up the new Wireless Network connection and deleted the old LAN one. My desktop upstairs was now talking to the router downstairs and I signed onto AOL.
Now, I'm sixty-five, and no expert, but, if you do your research, use the Instalation Wizard, unplug your old LAN cable and check your firewall, I can't see where this product will let you down.
Final point, Microsoft Windows Update Centre gave me an Optional Netgear Update which I downloaded and installed. I have not dropped an internet connection as yet!.
Just the thing February 20, 2010 A. Southernwood I wanted to get rid of the 10 metres of cable running up the stairs in my house. My pc is ancient and I thought this gismo would never make a wireless connection. To my surprise, after a bit of fiddling (I'm no techie) it worked! In fact my connection is better than before, as the router is now 10 metres nearer to the main phone line. Have had a couple of dropouts, but I just unplug the adapter and plug it back in and bingo. Very satisfied.
Great bit of kit! February 5, 2010 Mr. G. P. Lowe (West Sussex) Very simple to set up & operate....I only wish I could say the same about my internet provider!
